What you can do

Overview:

a. Time for the DoE to live up to its promise and provide STEM students with a K-8 G&T education.  Our recent survey shows there is a strong preference for a K-8 standalone with its own administration- on par with the other citywides.  On a January 2013 Town Hall, Chancellor Walcott said the DoE is working on a K-8 for STEM so it is time to see it in writing.

b. Make STEM Academy the Priority.  STEM Academy should be first in line for any allocation of school space in District 30 before a charter school (i.e. Success Academy) is established.

c. City-wide seats needed throughout New York City.  In 2012, 2,656 kindergarten students qualified at the 97th percentile, and 1602 scored at the 99th percentile, but there were only 285 seats.  Due to a lack of seats, only 18% of the students in 99th percentile are offered seats in a city-wide program.
